Been shown my tent set high on the cliffs overlooking the Mara River, nothing prepared me for the luxury that awaited me. Inside my tent was a study, to paint, read and research nature, and a hammock outside for every afternoon siesta. The scene before me was alive with sounds of laughing hippos, and crocs, and the splash of elephants crossing the river. The birdlife was prolific up and down the river, and was a fraction of the adventure I was to step into for the next four days. Every safari drive, watching the birds making their nests, the three hundred buffalo grazing on the grasses, I saw lions, leopards, cheetah and giraffe, arriving back at base camp to a sumptuous meal, set up at different venues, each one with their own story of the bush. Like the river, my sketchbook flowed with creativity I left with a rejuvenated spirit, longing to return to a place of beauty and such generous hospitality.

This was an unprecedented experience. Everyone was unfailingly kind, the accommodations were wonderful – comfortable, beautiful, very special.
We enjoyed the food cooked on site by their wonderful chef David and every aspect was managed so well by Cecilia. Our safari guide Dominic was so knowledgeable and we felt safe every minute.

This was out 6th trip to the Mara but first time at Sentinel, and we loved it! The location is spectacular – right on the river, overlooking hippos and various visitors (elephants for example) at lunch and from outside your tent. As soon as you drive out of camp, you’re right in with the animals straightaway.
The vibe is very “Out of Africa” with antique furniture and four poster beds. We loved the camp chairs out front and hammock for afternoon relaxing. It’s quiet, peaceful, and a perfect retreat with just the sounds of the Mara hippos and other wildlife.
The service is impeccable, from owner Peter joining fireside for a pre-dinner drinks to Cecilia (manager) and Doreen seeing you off and greeting you on your returns from game drives. Doreen’s promise that “she has a guy” who can get anything you need was true when I requested a yoga mat to do some physio exercises in my tent. The bush showers were hot and ready upon request. No wifi in the guest tents encourages you to relax and be where you are, but was fast and reliable in the main tent area if you must connect. The food was delicious – meats were well cooked (as opposed to over as at many Mara camps we’ve visited), and beautiful salads at lunch – we particularly loved the salad dressing. And the wine list offered more options and variety in the all inclusive package than most camps.
The massage with Cecilia was another treat well worth enjoying. And Peter & Wendy’s work with the local community and they’re not for profit made it easy to give back to the people who call the Mara home.
We definitely plan to return and have already recommended to friends!

We spent 3 fabulous days here in a beautifully appointed tent overlooking the Mara river. Hippos bellowing and wonderful bird song woke us along with tea delivered to our door.

Look no further. Sentinel Mara Camp is an amazing experience, from the spacious and well-appointed tents (with flush toilets and hot water) to the wonderful staff, who cater to your every need, to the fantastic food (they need to write a cookbook) and the talented and engaging Maasai drivers who took us out twice a day, found the animals and taught us so much about them. I felt like I was living in The Lion King. The location is spectacular, and you might find a hippo or a monkey near your tent! I would go again in a heartbeat. Peter and Wendy have created a truly magical spot, and their dedicated and caring staff bring it to life.

The Sentinel Mara camp exceeded all my expectations! The staff is incredibly kind and attentive! The tents are roomy and have a bathroom area with toilet sink and shower. You will be sitting on the bank if the Mara River and be amongst the wildlife but very safe. A truly authentic experience! Had a blast!!

This was our first Safari and we feel so fortunate to have experienced it at Sentinel Mara Camp! From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff is attentive, caring, communicative and are truly there to ensure you feel welcome and safe.The location is perfect, right on the river. From our tents we saw hippos, elephants and crocodiles. When we’d go on game drives, we saw so many animals within minutes of leaving the camp!Our tents were well appointed, including running water, a toilet and a hot shower.The meals were fantastic, complete with drinks (wine, beer, Coca-cola products, etc), apps, main courses and desserts. My daughter is a picky eater, and the Chef personally checked in with her each day to determine what she’d like for her meals.The staff at Sentinel went above and beyond, sharing stories about the Maasai culture and the Maasai Mara Reserve, helping us feel part of the experience rather than just visitors passing through.Our game drives were spectacular! Our guide, Jonathan, was experienced, engaging, and clearly passionate about helping us see the best that the Mara has to offer. Thanks to him, we had so many once-in-a-lifetime moments.Choosing lodging in the Maasai Mara can be overwhelming, but the value and experience at Sentinel Mara Camp are unmatched.
