For those seeking to invest in property, the old adage “location, location and location” is tried and true.
The same can be said when seeking a premium game viewing safari experience. We are privileged in this respect being inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, traditionally referred to as “The Jewel of Africa” when it comes to safaris. Something of this lustre may have been lost due to its popularity which leads to certain areas of the Reserve being crowded at times. However the north western sector is far less visited with fewer vehicles.
The Masai Mara is a world unique ecosystem with the annual wildebeest migration, being the largest and most species-diverse large mammal migration on earth. Furthermore, the combination of being close to the equator and at an altitude of 5,500 feet means visitors enjoy a comfortably temperate climate while on safari.
At Sentinel we are particularly fortunate to have 4 different eco-zones right on our doorstep: riverine forest where the camp is set up, the Musiara Marsh which is a short distance behind the camp, the savannah grassland for which the Mara is famous and acacia woodland on the nearby hills. This affords us the enjoyment of great diversity of animal, plant and bird life.
The icing on the cake is the actual position of the camp with each of our 7 guest tents tucked away in the forest with superb views of the Mara River below with its hippo and crocodile. The privacy and exclusivity of this small camp is captured by guests often commenting that you don’t even know the camp is there as you approach until you actually find yourself in it!
All this is made even more special by being in a seasonal eco camp with no permanent structures, which gives guests an authentic “close to nature” experience reminiscent of the classic East African safari. Not to say that you won’t experience appropriate luxury with our high standards of attention to detail and personalized service that encompass “The Elegance and Adventure of a bygone era.”
